I managed to disqualify myself by saying that while Hollywood was not really "run" by anyone (it's far too chaotic for that), if Jews were about 2.5 percent of the population and were about 60 percent of Hollywood, they might well be said to be extremely predominant in that sector.
That was far too logical and un-PC an answer, and I never heard from her again.

Michigan Governor Warns of Oil Spill Threat

Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm expressed growing worry on Wednesday that an oil spill, believed to be among the largest ever in the Midwest, might reach Lake Michigan if efforts to contain the oil were not strengthened.
“It would be a tragedy of historic proportions if this reached Lake Michigan,” Ms. Granholm said.
More than 800,000 gallons of oil spilled Monday into the Kalamazoo River, a major waterway that flows into Lake Michigan, about 60 miles away. The leak came from a 30-inch pipeline that carries millions of gallons of oil each day from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ontario.

End Middle East Wars To Spur Economy

The solution to our fiscal crisis, The Nation magazine editorializes, is to “end the wars, allow the tax cuts to expire and restore robust growth.” That’s because nearly the entire deficit this year and those projected at least for the short term are the result of “the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Bush tax cuts and the recession,” the publication says in its lead editorial of August 2nd.
Yet, while the Obama administration has just pushed through $59 billion more to send 30,000 more troops into Afghanistan to intensify that war and for "nation-building", it has done way too little to help the States maintain needed jobs. “Spending on local projects plummets,” was a June 25th headline in “USA Today.”

Many observers have noted that we are already in the early stages of what future history will view as the third World War. I would add to that observation that the same future history will observe that we are already losing it.
That we have been put on a wartime economy is beyond question. Trillions of dollars are being spent on the machinery of death while support for life ebbs daily across this nation. As George Bernard Shaw observed, there is nothing in man;s industry but his greed and his sloth; his heart is in his weapons. Forget the speeches; what a government truly wants is what they will spend the peoples' money on.
So who is winning these wars, and who is losing? Victors are for history and white flags to determine, but I already see who is losing this war. We have fifty acres of tents down at the bottom of this hill filled with the victims of the3se lost wars. Although the rich rulers may never feel the sting, the fact is that every business that closes, every home that is foreclosed, every job that is lost is a victory for the enemy and a defeat for this nation. It does not matter who wears the ribbons and medals; those who pay the costs of wars look pretty much the same on all sides of the conflict, living looted lives while burying their children. Textbooks will point to one group and say they are the better for having achieved victory, while this other group are inferior because they were forced to surrender, but in truth the people on both sides of war are always the losers, while the powerful count the riches looted during the confusion and count themselves clever indeed for it all.
But the truth is that WW3 has already begun, and the USA has already lost it. Take a look around you at the shattered economy, the abandoned factories, the poverty, the decay, the homelessness, and tell me that it could be otherwise.

Boom placed around 100-foot-high plume; tugboat hit well, officials say. The oil and gas is shooting up 100 feet into the air, officials said, as a private contractor was called in to try to cap the well. While small in size, the spill weighed heavy on locals. When Christianity became Rome's official religion, many Hebrew practices were abandoned, including the Jubilee. Without that occasional push of the reset button, Rome's debts piled up until Rome fell.

Airplane crash in Pakistan kills 152 people aboard

It was the worst plane crash ever in Pakistan, and rescue workers battled fires and muddy conditions as they searched in vain to find survivors on the densely wooded hillside where the flight went down.
"The situation at the site of the crash is heartbreaking," said Imtiaz Elahi, chairman of the Capital Development Authority, which deals with emergencies and reports to the Interior Ministry. "It is a great tragedy, and I confirm it with pain that there are no survivors."
The dead included two U.S. citizens, said the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad without providing further details.

A new oil leak has sprung up in the Gulf of Mexico after a boat struck an oil well in the early morning hours on Tuesday. Israeli authorities have demolished the homes of about 300 Bedouins in a village in the southern Negev desert.
The entire village of al-Arakib was bulldozed on Tuesday, with many of the former residents' cattle, trees and belongings lost.

Common sense (and engineering) will tell you that if you have a pipe with leaks, putting a cap on one leak simply drives the oil out the other leaks. From an environmental perspective this makes no sense, because the oil is still leaking out of the well, just in a different place. Of greater concern is that the oil can flow out into the surrounding rocks the way the mud did during the failed Top Kill procedure, forming what is called a subsurface blowout. This is a huge bubble of oil inside the rock. The danger is if the bubble ruptures and the oil collected over 80 days of leakage rushed to the surface of the gulf all at once. Such a surge of oil could easily engulf and founder the surface ships.

If the well is successfully capped, one can be certain that the US media will drop the story, "concerned" politicians will wind down their investigations, and BP and the oil industry as a whole will go back to raking in enormous profits on reckless drilling operations.
But what will be left of the Gulf?
The region faces a social, economic, and ecological catastrophe from which it will never recover under the current political set-up, dominated by two big-business parties and a government that at every level does the bidding of the financial and corporate elite. This basic fact has been amply demonstrated by the response to the spill itself, which from the beginning took as its overriding concerns the financial preservation of BP and the demands of the oil industry.

Sources at two companies involved with the well said that BP also discovered new damage inside the well below the seafloor and that, as a result, some of the drilling mud that was successfully forced into the well was going off to the side into rock formations.
"We discovered things that were broken in the sub-surface," said a BP official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. He said that mud was making it "out to the side, into the formation."

So, there is no way this cap is stopping the flow of oil. It may not be coming out where the cameras are, which is great for BP and Obama, but if the drilling mud was leaking out to the side, then so too is the oil. A subsurface blowout is forming 1000 feet down under the floor of the Gulf of Mexico. Sooner or later the accumulating oil bubble will blow through the ocean floor in a massive spill event. Maybe Obama is hoping it won't happen until November 5th.

The number of U.S. homes taken back by banks through foreclosure hit a record high in the second quarter, even as lenders delayed more homes from entering the process through short sales and loan modification efforts, according to data to be released Thursday.
U.S. bank repossessions increased 38% in the second quarter from the same period a year earlier for a record total of 269,952, according to Irvine research firm RealtyTrac. That was also a jump of 5% from the previous quarter. If that pace continues through the year, the number of homes taken by banks is likely to top 1 million by the end of 2010, said Rick Sharga, RealtyTrac senior vice president.

BP Fixing New Cap Leak as It Prepares to Start Gulf Well Test

BP Plc said it will begin a pressure test of its gushing Gulf of Mexico well after fixing a leak that erupted while it was shutting off oil flow with a new containment cap.
The leak was detected in a “choke line” leading from the stack of valves that makes up the cap installed July 12 on the Macondo well, BP said in a statement yesterday. BP said the leak had been “isolated” and was being repaired.

Israel’s military announced on Monday that it will launch an investigation into the killing of Bassem Abu Rahma, a Palestinian who was killed when he was struck by an Israeli tear gas canister during a peaceful protest in the West Bank village of Bil’in in April 2009.
This announcement marks a reversal in the military’s stance in the case. According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, Israel’s Military Advocate General had refused to open a criminal investigation in the matter, but on Monday changed its mind after expert testimony showed that the tear gas canister was aimed directly at Abu Rahma and was fired in violation of military orders.

Turkey, China help Iran on fuel supplies after "US bite"

Friendly powers in the international arena are helping Iran get fuel supplies after the U.S. passed unilateral sanctions a week ago that aim to hinder Tehran's fuel imports.
The Islamic Republic is buying around half of its July gasoline imports from Turkey and the rest from Chinese sellers, oil traders said on Thursday, as most other suppliers have stopped selling due to the U.S. sanctions.
Two of the gasoline cargoes coming from Turkey were scheduled to load from Turkish refiner Tupras' Izmit refinery, while two or three were scheduled to load from Tupras' Izmir refinery, sources said. The cargoes would be loaded load onto ships owned by the state energy giant National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), they added.

Brilliant, right? Depends. If you are the vulture, you get a nice check. If you are the worker at the company, you eventually lose your job as the company closes because the company could no longer service the debt payments.

From the air, the area north of Grand Isle, Louisiana, much of it around Barataria Bay, looks like scorched earth. This area has been and is heavily afflicted by BP’s oil. The so-called clean up efforts, including laying out booms to supposedly prevent oil from destroying more marsh and killing more wildlife, are a farce.
Opaque multi-color sheen stains much of the bay, and is visible in countless inlets that snake their way into the marsh. The contrast between the green marsh area yet to be soiled and the marsh already blackened by the oil and the sheen covered Gulf water is stark. The afflicted water appears as a lifeless, dull, silvery fluid.

Syria would support Lebanon in the event of any attack by Israel, Syrian President Bashar Assad told Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Sunday, the official Syrian news agency SANA reported. “Syria will stand alongside the government and people of Lebanon against any possible Israeli aggression..."
It appears that Israel has decided that a reinvasion of Lebanon is in the cards, which will bring Syria into the confrontation on Lebanon's side.

IDF declassifies evidence of Hizbullah presence in Lebanon

She detailed how local police and federal officials work with BP to harass, impede, interrogate and even detain journalists who are covering the impact of the spill and the clean-up efforts. She documented one incident which was particularly chilling of an activist who -- after being told by a local police officer to stop filming a BP facility because "BP didn't want him filming" -- was then pulled over after he left by that officer so he could be interrogated by a BP security official.

"Ever angelic" and in distant pre-1989 times ,committed Marxist-Leninist, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has assumed the leading role in advancing this new formula of de-facto-communist world government, said "We are going to [stop] our economic stimulus policies, through which we used to run into even more debt, and will as industrial nations halve our new debts until 2013."
And in a second step, from 2013 to 2016, the G20 agreed to gradually reach zero new debt - which means, of course, even more "economic contraction".
But after 2016 comes the real thing: paying back all national debt, as ever with interest and compound interest!!!

Americans never agreed to all that debt the government ran up. Indeed I recall quite clearly in 2008 how Americans told Congress 9 to 1 NOT to use public money to bail out private corporations and Congress went ahead and did it anyway. They did not have the "Consent of the governed" to run up that debt and they damned sure do not have the "Consent of the governed" to drive us all into poverty to pay it back.
To do so is taxation without representation and the school I went to taught me that this is a legitimate reason to kick out the tax-happy government and replace it with something a bit more amenable to the American people (as opposed to these slaves for Israel we are stuck with now).

US Demands North Waziristan Offensive

Speaking today in Peshawar, America’s Consul General for Peshawar, Candace Putnam, called for the Pakistani government to launch a military offensive against North Waziristan, saying it was “vitally urgent” that it be done soon.
Putnam made the comments following a statement praising the Pakistani offensive against the Swat Valley, an offensive which drove millions of civilians from their homes, killed large numbers of people, but ultimately failed to yield the capture of any members of the Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leadership for the region.

The US is demanding, essentially, that the Pakistani government and military wage a war against its own people.
It appears that the only thing the US wants in Pakistan is further destabilization, and more intense human misery.
One has to wonder if this outcome is desired in order for the US, at some point, to "save" a nuclear-armed Pakistan from itself.

A case study in failure: the Israel lobby at Toronto Pride

After two years of backroom lobbying of the Pride board of directors, their sponsors and city officials who make funding decisions for the festival, the organization succumbed to pressure and announced that it would censor the term "Israeli apartheid" from the parade.
In its May 28 editorial A case study in activism, the National Post hailed the decision as a landmark victory that would have “significant repercussions for the intellectual climate in this country.”
Less than a month later, Pride Toronto reversed its decision and allowed Queers Against Israeli Apartheid to march in the parade. As a result of the controversy, hundreds of people joined the group at Pride last weekend, forming the largest Palestine solidarity contingent in the parade’s history.

As the details have slowly emerged, these two cases offer vivid examples of how government-scripted many of the terror plots “uncovered” in the U.S. in recent years have turned out to be. Each case, in fact, offers a window onto a stark world in which nothing is what it seems to be.

Attempting to keep the American public afraid of these government-sponsored chimeras is the attempt to keep Americans from thinking rationally.
And in these times, rational, critical thinking is the only salvation from a government which has absolutely no concern for the welfare of its citizens, and has gone on a spending orgy to support immoral and illegal wars without end which may well leave this country both broke and balkanized.
